Dark stained wood at the top and bottom, four brass posts between them, and blown glass holding white sand.

Half an hour is long enough to be useful and short enough that you will actually turn it over again. We tried the one hour version and nobody turns that one over.

It does not beep, and it cannot be silenced, because it was never making a noise.
